Blind Box Collecting 101

How to start a blind box collection you'll love — without going broke or getting burned by fakes.

A blind box is a sealed package containing one random figure from a set series. You know the lineup; you don't know which one you'll pull. That tiny gamble — plus one ultra-rare "secret" or "chase" figure hiding in some cases — is the entire, glorious problem.

How the odds actually work

Every series publishes its ratios. A typical mainline series has 12 figures at even odds, with a secret figure at something like 1:144 — meaning one secret in every 144 boxes, not a 1-in-144 chance per box in your hands (case packing matters). Our release calendar lists odds per series so you can decide whether to chase or buy your favourite outright on the secondary market.

Avoiding fakes

Counterfeits cluster around whatever is hardest to find. Three quick checks: buy from official stores or well-reviewed sellers, compare the box's print quality and seal stickers against photos from the brand's site, and be suspicious of "secret" figures sold cheap and in quantity. If a listing has ten secrets in stock, it has zero real ones.

Displaying your pulls

A collection on a shelf reads as a collection; a collection in a drawer reads as a shopping problem. Risers, cloud shelves and diorama kits do a lot with little space:

When to buy the single figure instead

If you only want one specific figure and the series has 12, expect to spend roughly 12× the box price chasing it — at that point the secondary market is the rational move, and retired or secret figures usually settle at 2–3× RRP. Check our release calendar for retirement-risk notes before a series disappears.
