Chiikawa

Nagano's small, brave, perpetually overwhelmed creatures — Japan's biggest cute phenomenon. 30 finds in the catalog.

Chiikawa comes from the Japanese illustrator Nagano, whose title roughly means "something small and cute", a fair description of its cast of tiny, wide-eyed creatures. The trio at the center is Chiikawa itself, the earnest cat-like Hachiware, and the more confident Usagi, whose unhinged "YHA!" energy has become a meme in its own right.

What sets it apart is the emotional undertow: these little characters cry, panic, and scrape by in a surprisingly hard world, which makes their small victories genuinely touching. Born as a serialized comic on X, it exploded into plush, figures, and daily-life goods.
